Tamar Kaplan, Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Accepting new clients

Tamar is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Oregon, Arizona, Massachusetts,  Maryland. She loves being able to support people from coast to coast! Before moving to the greenery of the Pacific Northwest, Tamar earned her MSW from Arizona State University during which time she interned in a VA outpatient mental health clinic and provided counseling services to the veteran population. From there she provided acute crisis stabilization for children experiencing suicidality as well as ongoing counseling services to children and teens, with a focus on depression, anxiety, and trauma.

In more recent years, Tamar has primarily focused on supporting adults navigating difficulties with self-esteem, anxiety, depression, stress, perfectionism, chronic illness, and LGBTQ+ concerns. Tamar has a passion for working with adults across the age spectrum, especially young adults as well as the 65+ population. Tamar’s style can be summarized as a gentle cheerleader. She strives to provide a sense of warmth and encouragement in all of her sessions and makes sure her clients feel seen and heard. It is her belief that she is not meant to push someone toward change but rather walk alongside them as they navigate life’s challenges. She especially enjoys helping people to view situations from new perspectives and to try to approach their concerns in new ways. She has worked with clients of every age and is of the belief that it is never too late to make a change and live a happier life.

Tamar holds a Clinical Social Work in Gerontology certificate and incorporates aspects from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Mindfulness.

In her free time, Tamar tries to practice the same level of self-care that she encourages for her clients. She enjoys going for walks with her dog Zoom, exploring new coffee shops, baking, and spending time with her family.
