Emi Gilbert, LCSW, RYT 200 | (She/Her)

Emi Gilbert, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Registered Yoga Teacher

Accepting new clients

Emi is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as a Registered Yoga Teacher. She earned her Master of Social Work from Portland State University and her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from University of Washington, where she studied Dialectical Behavior Therapy under its founder at the Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics.

Emi specializes in combining talk therapy with mindfulness practices (such as breathing practices, meditation, and mindful movement) to support clients in building conscious awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, values, and actions. She also supports clients by creating a compassionate environment to practice mindful exposures to fear and distress. Her goal is to empower clients with the knowledge of how your brain and body work together to support change. Emi has a certification in using Therapeutic Yoga for Trauma Recovery, and can integrate movement and other body-based interventions in session as much or as little as is comfortable for each individual adult, child, or couple. With prior experience in schools and child/family community mental health, Emi has a particular specialization in adapting interventions for children and teens. For all ages, sessions can include elements of art, play, games, and humor as desired. She supports individuals and couples in addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, life transitions, attachment/relational issues, and OCD.

Emi believes there is no “one size fits all” therapeutic approach, and is committed to working with you to create a unique and tailored experience for your life circumstances and at your own pace, rather than fitting your experience into a diagnostic label. As emphasized in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Emi believes in the balance of self-acceptance and change. Her therapeutic approach uses curiosity and humility, and she strives to create safe space for people to explore and disrupt patterns such as those related to attachment styles, generational trauma, and/or internalized oppression. Depending on the need, she is flexible in her balance of using therapy for skill-building and/or as a processing space.

Emi’s personal passions include her love for her cats, reading, yoga, film and television analysis, and travel. She will be more than happy to show you pictures of her cats in session.
