Amy Hughes, LCSW | She/Her

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Currently full, waitlist available

Amy earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from New York University. Amy interned on the acute adolescent unit of a children's psychiatric hospital. Following graduation, she worked at an out-patient clinic that served young people ages 14 - 24. She lived in NYC for over a decade before moving to the West Coast. Amy has worked in other mental health settings and has taken hiatuses to work in other fields and raise a family. Amy specializes in working with teens and Generation Z adults. Her clients have been new to counseling or have returned to therapy, and are motivated to move forward. Her style includes components of evidence-based theoretical approaches of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and psychodynamic theory. She is a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive clinician and strives to give clients a safe place to unload and explore their challenges.

Over the years Amy has worked with clients addressing issues of adjustment, anxiety, binge eating, depression, gender dysphoria, sexuality, self-harm, and stress. She uses a range of therapeutic approaches to help clients process their emotional experiences and interpersonal situations. She draws on concepts of radical acceptance, mindfulness, and self-compassion. She helps clients learn effective skills to replace helplessness and hopelessness, and to better understand how maladaptive coping strategies were survival skills.

Amy works with clients ages 16+ and her preferred age range is 16 - 30. She is an LGBTQ-affirming clinician. She will provide in-person and virtual sessions.

In her free time, Amy enjoys music and other forms of self-care. She and her spouse live with their pets and love visiting their kids.
