Sound Therapy

What is Vibrational Sound Therapy?

VST uses vibration in such a way to create movement within the body so that areas where we hold tension might relax and re-open. When we are stressed and our nervous system is overloaded, our brain shuts down certain processes as a protective measure to keep us safe (Flight or Fight.) This state can activate a cascade of stress hormones that produce physiological changes that make us feel restless and anxious, along with symptoms like insomnia, fatigue, low mood, depression, headaches, muscle tension and digestive issues. VST uses sound to help our brain waves slow down and re-align, harmonizing the body and supporting the transition to an optimal state, so that our body can repair itself the same as a good night's sleep will do. VST is a tool we can use to optimize how we feel and how our body functions in everyday life.

What can I expect during a session? What do I need to do?

You simply lay on a massage table, fully clothed and just relax. Your practitioner will place therapeutic-grade singing bowls and/or tuning forks on/around your body, then use a mallet to strike the instrument creating a sound vibration. Some people stay awake the whole time while others enter a deeper state of consciousness, some even fall asleep. Most clients begin to relax as soon as the session begins. Muscles relax, your heart rate and breathing will begin to slow down and your body will shift into a parasympathetic state. Some people compare it to getting a relaxing massage.

How do tuning forks work?

Just like everything in the universe, our body is composed of energy-producing particles which are in constant motion or vibration. Any type of experience we have, whether trauma or happiness can affect the way your body and nervous system resonates. Researchers have found that the vibrations and the electromagnetic energy associated with them can cause changes in your cells and how your body functions. Where there is incoherent, or blocked energy, you can place a tuning fork on or around that distorted vibration. The tuning fork’s vibration will act in a way that entrains the energy and helps it become coherent by guiding your body back into its natural vibrational state and rhythm, creating harmony within the body and encouraging healing.

Are there any other health benefits of Vibrational Sound therapy?

Yes, there are so many benefits! While VST helps quiet the mind and helps to bring the energetic body back into balance, it creates a therapeutic atmosphere to promote deep rest. By introducing deep meditative states, VST can be useful for reducing stress and depression, helping to improve sleep quality, boosting creativity, releasing blockages, emotional and tension release, raising one's focus, boosting creativity as well as calming the mind, body, and spirit. VST has also been shown to release nitric oxide, which is a huge contributor for pain reduction and nervous system balancing. A VST session gives us a chance to be still, present, and realign with our body's innate wisdom, freeing us from worldly distractions and allowing an opportunity to hear our inner voice.
