Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Jennifer (Stern) Levin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker LCSW in the states of Oregon, Michigan, and New York. Jennifer received her Bachelors of Science Degree and Masters of Social Work Degree from the Stony Brook School of Social Welfare in Stony Brook, NY. Aligning with her school’s focus, Jennifer is passionate about looking at the whole picture when treating a client. She takes into consideration her client’s role in the many systems in their life as well as society as whole. She is an advocate for social justice and seeks to support oppressed groups of peoples according to their narrative, experience, and defined needs.
You may notice that in sessions, websites, and psychology today, Jennifer refers to the people she works with as clients, not patients. It is a focal point of her practice to work alongside each person who is seeking help. Additionally, she refuses to see any person as inherently sick or wounded. Always looking to identify a person’s strengths, she works together with her clients to find hope, and move past perceived limitations. When a person comes in lacking any hope, Jennifer sees it as her duty to see and hold onto hope until her client can share in that vision.
Jennifer has practiced in a variety of settings, allowing her to work with a range of clients from diverse backgrounds. She has worked extensively with preschool-aged children, as well as clients of all ages who sought treatment for mental health issues, family stress, difficulty with major life changes, and identity affirmation. Jennifer is especially passionate about working with children and clients of all ages who identify as transgender, agender, Gender expansive, genderfluid, or are seeking to better understand their gender identity.
Jennifer persistently seeks to expand upon her knowledge through workshops, independent studies, and simply listening to clients’ truths. Although she is fully licensed, she always sees room for growth as a person and a clinician. She also sees the value of connecting with other providers in the area so that there is room for collaboration, support, and referral when needed. Whether she is the best fit for you or not, it is a top priority that Jennifer’s clients are in the best hands for the needs they present with. True to her background in social work, Jennifer also helps clients find community supports and services where they would be of use in their journey.
Jennifer has an eclectic approach to treatment as she knows one size does not fit all. She is an active member of the National Association for Social Workers (NASW), The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), and The Association for Play Therapy (APT). Jennifer looks to her various trainings and life experience to create a safe space for clients to be true to who they are and work towards the vision they have for their life, whether it be coping with mental illness, improving quality of relationships, seeking spiritual growth, self acceptance, self expression, or any other personal goals her clients bring with them to sessions.
