I have been working with children for over 14 years as a teacher and as a therapist. I believe in a holistic, relational approach to healing that integrates the mind, body, and spirit. As a therapist, I believe that our sense of self develops as we relate to our environment and in our relationships with others. I have experience treating children and their families in an inpatient and outpatient setting; my specialization includes treatment of children with behavioral/emotional struggles, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, children who have experienced trauma, and children who have experiences with auditory and visual hallucinations.
I firmly believe in working collaboratively with children and their families based on their cultural/spiritual values and beliefs to create a holistic, relational approach to therapy that integrates mindfulness, movement and expressive arts techniques to foster recognition and expression of their ideal physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental health.
I believe that there is not a “me” unless there is an “other,” so as a therapist I am fully present and engaged, listening and responding to each individual in a curious, nonjudgmental and compassionate manner. With children, I utilize Gestalt Play Therapy techniques, specifically integrating a child’s mind, body functioning. Based on neuroscience, this is done by connecting body sensations to the child’s brain, building self-support and teaching them how to utilize external/relational supports so they may express emotions effectively. I draw upon drama, music, sandtray, yoga, dance, art, and mindfulness to create interactive activities that assist the child in developing body-mind awareness.
I graduated from Pacifica Graduate Institute with a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and Depth Psychology. I am currently registered as an intern with the Oregon State Board of Marriage and Family Therapists pursuing licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT). I also have a Masters of Fine Arts in Theatre from Indiana University.
I have completed the Gestalt Play Therapy Intensive Training with West Coast Institute and am working towards play therapy certification with the Association of Play Therapists. I have completed coursework for PCIT (Parent Child Interactive Therapy) and am working towards certification. I also have completed Tier One Collaborative Problem Solving Certification training, as well as Holy Fire II (Reiki I & II attunement certificates) with The International Center for Reiki Training. I am a professional member in American Counseling Association, as well as a professional Member in American Play Therapy Association
